Our Story - GOC Church
Welcome to the story of GOC Church, where faith, community, love and resilience intertwine to create a sanctuary for our members. Our journey began with a divine call that beckoned us to embark on a mission far greater than ourselves to establish a church that would serve as a beacon of hope and faith.
Divine Beginnings
The inception of our church was rooted in a profound spiritual encounter. We felt a powerful summons from God to found a church, yet the path forward was initially unclear. It was during a pivotal moment that the revelation came: we were to lay down our church’s foundations in the heart of Texas. We explored San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston, but it was in Houston that our vision started to crystallize. Invited by a friend, we were captivated by the vibrant atmosphere and the warm, welcoming community. It was clear; Houston was where God intended us to flourish.
A Vision Amidst Challenges
Our resolve was tested early when, shortly after settling in Houston, I experienced a significant dream. It was a vivid portrayal of adversaries plotting against our ministry, but it also came with a vision of hope. God revealed to me a specific room within the Baptist church building that was destined to be our congregation’s home. This vision led us to the Vietnamese Baptist Church, where we discovered that their pastor had been praying for an African pastor to lead a special branch of their congregation. It felt like the pieces of a divine puzzle coming together.
Establishment and Growth
Then, in August 2017, Hurricane Harvey struck, leaving devastation in its wake. In these trying times, our community’s resolve grew stronger, and exactly one month later, GOC Church officially opened its doors. Since our inception in September 2017, GOC Church has grown into a vital pillar of both the Francophone and Anglophone African Christian communities in the area.
Community and Service
Over the past six years, GOC Church has not only been a place of worship but also a center of community support and charity. We have actively participated in numerous charitable events, aiding those in need and spreading love and compassion as taught by Christ.
